Its not every day that you get asked to decorate cupcakes with Aerin Lauder (yes, that Lauder i.e. Estée…) and at New York’s favourite, Magnolia Bakery of all places…!
My first question was why she would want to make cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery? Well firstly, its one of her favourite sweet spots in the city, and secondly, Ms. Lauder has launched a new collection of perfumes, and how better to celebrate the heavenly AERIN parfums than by decorating cupcakes! With five scents in the range, the Lilac Path scent stuck out as one of her favourites, and so we made Magnolia Bakery’s famed lilac cupcake!
The Chief Baking Officer (love that title) of Magnolia Bakery, Bobbie Lloyd, gave us an exclusive tutorial on how to frost the signature MB buttercream swirl… Turns out this simple frosting technique is nearly impossible to replicate at first attempts. The CBO told us that it takes up to 40 hours to perfect!!! So of course, more of it ended up in our mouths than on the cupcakes.
Aside from cupcakes, I can also be picky with perfumes, wanting a unique but beautiful scent. And this is why I love the AERIN perfumes… They are perfect for all seasons, moods, and personalities, and come in the most adorable little bottles and baggies to match, all designed by Aerin Lauder herself. You can buy them at most high end department stores like Saks and Neiman Marcus, and internationally at the likes of Harrods. They would make a perfect holiday gift, and why not buy a Magnolia Bakery cupcake to go with too!
“The effect of scent is really interesting; It can create a
mood and change a feeling immediately. I wanted to create
a modern wardrobe of fragrances – fragrances that can be
very personal to the woman who’s wearing them.”
