The other week I was in Milan, yet again in this familiar city of familiar friends where I have been collecting memories for years. My basic Italian got me comfortably around the city (and I must say, my gelato ordering skills are still impeccable.) The trams still tolled their bells over cobbled streets, the Milanese summer still hot and muggy, and the gelato ever-so abundant and common place. But this time, I discovered a new gem in the heart of the city… The day began with a pastel ensemble seemingly foreshadowing this delicious discovery.

Nestled across the street from the charming arches of Porta Ticinese, a quaint little cupcake shop draped in flowering vines invited me in. I couldn’t miss the sign “Cupcake Couture” printed on the window, and I thought how appropriate that the Italian hub of fashion have similar couture sweets.
Beautifully painted cookies and cupcakes perched on silver trays were all decorated in wistfully dreamy shades of pastel. Although the cupcake fad has somewhat wained in North America, it was alive and well for the Milanese appetite at Cupcake Couture.

Afterwards, butterfly cookie in hand, I took a stroll…

Bought some Antichi Romani hand-made Italian sandals at Stiù…
And didn’t go home without a banana coconut sorbetto from a favourite gelateria Frozen Gelateria, specialising in sugar-free gelati and sorbetti.
That evening, I met with fellow bloggers Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad and Linda Tol of LifestyleHunters for a typically delicious Italian meal at Mimmo Milano a restaurant by Italian fashion label Dondup. We talked fashion, food, blogging, and our next travel plans. Before dessert was served, the head chef graciously invited me for an exclusive look into their kitchen where they were preparing our cakes!
