Art Basel Miami Diary

I don’t pretend to be an art connoisseur, but I can appreciate intriguing contemporary art, wholesome desserts, and fashionable finds all to be found in one city that becomes Miami during the annual art fair, Art Basel. So I’m bringing to you my Top 6 of Miami Art Basel.

I’m wearing: Topshop dress, Dolce & Gabbana bag, vintage sunglasses newly purchased from Madelene’s!

2. Buena Vista Deli

Hailed as one of the “fashion wonders of the world”, this warehouse of exquisite vintage pieces in the Buena Vista neighbourhood of Miami is a must visit for fashion lovers. They don’t allow photography inside, but the nondescript entrance is all you need to look for! This local French bakery nestled in the up-and-coming Buena Vista neighbourhood was full of French people when I visited, and obviously popular amongst the local ex-pat French community. If you’re looking to escape the tourist traps of South Beach, this place is for you! Be sure to find home-made Macarons, Chocolate Croissants, Fruit Tarts, and more…

This clothing boutique holds some of the most sought after items and brands in fashion. Dior, Valentino, Céline, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford… It is single-handedly drawing the world’s sophisticates to the shores of South Beach as a top shopping destination. The rooftop is even home to the hip Parisian eatery Caviar Kaspia – caviar with your new Céline handbag anyone? The best part of this three story boutique are rumours of a famous French cafe opening soon…

A pop up art show on the beach? Who knew neon bikinis and fake DDs that were once synonymous with South Beach would someday be replaced by international art shows. Showcasing works from galleries across the globe, the Scope Art Show is exposing the most pioneering contemporary art to the public in a refreshingly approachable way, all the while evolving the cultural psyche one piece at a time. This one by far stole the show…

The newly opened Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) of modern and contemporary art is a gem along the shores of Miami. They say it best: “PAMM exists to improve the quality of life for individual residents of and visitors to Miami-Dade County, as well as social life in the communities they represent, by facilitating catalytic engagements with the most progressive visual arts of our time.”

Bonus… The Colette Pop-Up Art Drive Thru

And couldn’t forget my favourite… the Colette x Alchemist pop-up drive-thru where you could shop from the comfort of your car (or Vespa in this case!) Pick from the wall of items in collaboration with various artists, and pick from the computer! Had it delivered right to you from a lovely girl on roller skates. I chose the Ladurée macarons of course…
